The South Region held the first meeting for solid waste management

Cimișlia, 17 March 2014/the first meeting of the Working Group (WG) in the field of Solid Waste Management (SWM) was held in the south region. The event was organized by the South Regional Development Agency (South RDA) in collaboration with the German Agency for International Development (GIZ) and the Czech Agency for Development.

The objective of the meeting was to coordinate working plans along with experts in waste management for the years 2014-2015. This action will develop the work plan for the implementation of a feasibility study for three sub regions of the SDR, identified in the strategy for integrated management of solid waste:

-         Sub region Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, the feasibility study will be conducted with the support of GIZ;

-         Sub region Cimislia, Basarabeasca, Leova

And

-         Căușeni, Ștefan Vodă sub region, where the feasibility study will be carried out with the support of the Czech Embassy in the Republic of Moldova.

The Regional working groups were made up of representatives from the District Councils in their region. The Municipal undertakings are responsible for the waste sector in eight cities that are also district centers.

Competent central bodies were represented by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and the Ministry of the Environment.

In this context, the Regional Sectorial Working Group (RSWG) has been identified for being  responsible for monitoring the process of elaboration of the feasibility study, and the Working Group on the project (WGP) will participate directly with experts in the collection of the necessary data in the process. This will ensure communication between LPA and experts and will provide information and awareness of the population in cities and towns.

Similarly, GIZ experts Tamara Guvir and Ciprian Popovici, presented "the responsibilities of actors for the implementation of the work plan for 2014-2015".

The LPA has a vast following the involvement of in the south region, the elaboration of a feasibility study in order to obtain a quality product, will be the basis for attracting investment projects in the sector of Solid Waste Management and will be a tool for negotiating with donors, with a view to their implementation.

We reiterate, this activity is fully supported by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and the Ministry of the Environment and for  the framing of regional policy, as well as in the protection of the environment, promoted by both ministries.
