Interested parties meet carrying out the project CO-WANDA

Funded through the South East Europe transnational cooperation project ' CO-WANDA (Convention for Waste Management for Inland Navigation on the Danube)-Convention for waste management for inland navigation on the Danube "was drawn up by the eleven partners from 9 countries bordering the Danube. The South Regional Development Agency is one of the 9 partners of the project and works within packages 3 and 5, of the 5 working packages of the project.

In this context, an Austrian delegation headed by Hans Berger, project manager within CO-WANDA also paid a visit to Moldova. Thus, the delegates visited the Giurgiulesti port, located on the banks of the Danube with the South Regional Development Agency. During his visit to the South RDA they became familiar with Moldova's regional development priorities, goals, and challenges. South RDA Director, Maria Culeșov said "the application of this project was to gain not only in the South region but for the entire the country."

The visit continued with interested institutions meeting with the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction. Liviu Oboroc, Vice Minister of Regional Development and Construction and the National Coordinator of EUSDR (EU Strategy for the Danube Region), said that "because of this project we have the opportunity to work with several states situated along the Danube."

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of transport, Austrian expert - Mr. Hans Berger, manager of the project and Mr. Gerhard Schilk, principal expert, who presented the priorities of the EU programs and key achievements within the CO-WANDA project. They presented the legal aspects and situations in the field, as well as the priorities of the European Commission's programs that provide support for the implementation of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region.

The principle purpose of the CO-WANDA project consists of starting preliminary work on elaborating a treaty with legal value, which will draw the guidelines for the management of waste. All measures carried out in the framework of the project are intended to contribute to the development of an International Convention for waste generated by ships on the Danube, which will harmonize the management waste along the Danube.
