Planning and achievements in South Development Region

On the occasion of celebrating 5 years since the South Regional Development Agency was established, we will publish a series of articles on the results that the Agency obtained during its activity.

Today we refer to the regional planning and programming, one of the main activities of the Agency. About achievements in this field, we can mention the following:

It was elaborated the South Regional Development Strategy for 2010-2016, and after carrying out two Calls for Proposals (in 2010 and 2012) it was possible to develop the  South Regional Operational Plan 2010-2013 and 2013-2015.

In 2011, with the support of EPTISA it was elaborated the Strategy for Integrated Management of Solid Waste in the South Development Region (SDR), the first region in the country that has such a strategy. At the moment, three Feasibility Studies in this area, are in the progress of development. SDR has established in 2012, the Waste Management Association, being the only one in the Republic in this field.

In the years of 2011-2012 and 2014 with the support of GIZ, South RDA facilitated the process of updating the Strategy for Socio - Economic, Water Supply and Sanitation Chapter for Cahul and Leova districts. Also for these two districts were elaborated two Feasibility Studies in the Water Supply and Sanitation sector.

As well with the support of GIZ, were developed three Regional Sector Programs in Energy Efficiency, Water Supply and Sanitation, Regional and Local Roads, the last is to be approved at the next meeting by the South Regional Development Council.

Local authorities of the SDR, presented 17 Concepts for Project Proposals in the Water Supply and Sanitation and Energy Efficiency, that are to be examined by the inter-ministerial commission and later, some of them will be developed in Viable Projects Concepts and later on into Projects Proposed for Funding.

During its activity, the Agency has successfully organized and held two forums: ,, Creating opportunities for attracting investments into the South Development Region " held on September 25-26 2012, at Purcari, Stefan Voda district and "Entrepreneurship - key - factor in regional development" held in Cimislia on  September 30, 2014, gathering over 150 guests each, which demonstrates citizens' interest in the topics discussed during these events.
