New members of the Regional Development Councils in South, Center and North were chosen

Wednesday, 19 August 2015, at the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC) held a meeting of the Commission for selection of private sector representatives and civil society as members of Regional Development Councils. In the framework of this meeting were elected new members of the Regional Development Council, in the South, Center and North.

Vice Minister of Regional Development and Construction, Ion Stratulat said: "The Regional Council includes representatives of local public administration: the presidents of the regions; mayors within their respective regions, delegated by the Association of mayors; representatives of the private sector and public associations, selected in accordance with the procedure established by the Ministry. In addition, the Regional Council is based on the principle of parity between the representatives of the local administration, on the one hand, and representatives of the private sector, on the other hand. To identify private sector representatives in the Regional Development in Northern, Central and Southern Councils the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, launched on July 7, 2015, the competition for the selection of representatives. Interested persons were invited to submit documents in the offices of the Regional Development Agencies". During the meeting were elected also civil society representatives in the Regional Councils for Development.

According to the statutory procedure, after selecting the members, MRDC determines the date and venue of the first meeting of the Regional Council, being considered a constitutive session, where  RDC members elect the Chairman and Vice-Chairman.

Southern Regional Development Council is composed of 32 members, of which 8 heads of districts, eight mayors, eight representatives and eight representatives of the private sector of civil society. It follows that each district (Basarabeasca, Cahul, Cantemir, Causeni, Cimislia, Leova, Stefan Voda, Taraclia) is represented in South CRD with 4 people.

Regional Development Council (CRD) is defined by Law 438 of 28.12.2006 on regional development in Moldova (Article 7) as a functional consultative structure in the regions, without legal entity, whose purpose is to coordinate and promote the objectives of regional development policy at the local level.
