The members of the Regional Sectorial Committee in the field of Solid Waste Management (RSC SWM) from the Development Region South, created with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the project "Modernization of Local Public Services of the Republic of Moldova" (MLPS) met in Cimişlia on October 10, 2017. The first meeting was organized by the Regional Development Agency South in cooperation with GIZ.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the Republic of Moldova and of the RDA South.
Together with the specialists from Economy and Investment Department, Construction Department, Communal Household and Territorial Development from the District Councils, the members of the Regional Sectorial Committee in the field of Solid Waste Management from the South Region discussed the current situation in the three Waste Management Areas from the region, about experience and regionalization initiatives of waste management services, as well as SWM projects under implementation in the Development Region South.
The committee also got acquainted with the national policy and legal framework in solid waste management sector.
After an exchange of information and opinions, the participants at the meeting examined as a case study the situation of the unauthorized waste disposal from Cimișlia town that being in an awful situation at the moment, it generates serious environmental problems and it is dangerous for people's health.
We mention that the Regional Committee in the field of Solid Waste Management is created by the Regional Development Council South through Decision no. 2/03 of 29 June 2017. At the same meeting were approved the Operating Rules of the newly created structure.
In order to create and ensure the functionality of the regional sectorial committees, the Regional Development Council South and the Regional Development Agency South are supported by German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the project "Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova" (MLPS).
