More than 1,700 inhabitants of Leova town will have access to a centralized sewerage system as a result of the construction in this town of 13.5 km of internal sewerage networks and the connection to these networks of 690 individual houses. The new internal sewerage networks will be built within the investment measure "Extension of sewerage network in the town of Leova. Construction of wastewater pumping station in the town of Leova ", financially supported by the European Union. Recently, the construction works have been started within the given project, implemented by the Regional Development Agency South. The contractor has arranged the construction site and has already initiated the first works within the given project, deploying his technique, materials and equipment on site. Thus, so far, by the contracted economic operator - "Polimer Gaz Conducte" SRL, earthworks have been carried out on an area of 492 m3 and about 500 linear meters of sewer pipes, manholes and connection have been fitted. "Sustainable access to clean and quality drinking water, as well as sanitary services, are the key to economic and social development for any society," said Maria Culeșov, director of Regional Development Agency South. "Sewerage is a key challenge for both public health and sustainable development. The existence of a coherent sewerage system conditions the quality of the environment and, implicitly, the quality of life. Via this project, the European Union provides support for improving the daily lives of Moldovans, contributing to "better water supply and sewerage infrastructure in rural areas. Thanks to European investments, the citizens of the Southern Development Region will have access to quality, modern and sustainable public services of water supply and sanitation", emphasized Maria Culeșov. In his turn, Alexandru Bujorean, the mayor of Leova town, comes to point out the importance of this project and to thank the European Union for the financial support provided: "For me and my colleagues this investment project is not only an infrastructure project, but also a project for generations, which will place our town among the localities where quality services are and can be provided to European standards. I regret, however, that not all of us are yet fully aware of the positive consequences of this investment for the health of citizens and for the protection of the environment. But surely our children and grandchildren will appreciate what we are doing today, together with our partners, at Leova." Investment measure "Extension of sewerage network in the town of Leova. Construction of wastewater pumping station in the town of Leova" is funded by the European Union in cooperation with the project "Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova", which is implemented by GIZ Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and is financially supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
